How to Make Lotion | HOW TO MAKE LOTION AT HOME FROM SCRATCH | Bumblebee Apothecary

Making natural, homemade lotion is easy, once you know the basics! It can be fun to change it up with different oils and different essential oil bends. In this recipe I keep it simple with organic jojoba oil. I LOVE jojoba oil for it’s skin moisturizing properties. It is very similar to our own skin’s oils, which makes it absorb nicely and moisturize very well. Let’s jump in!

Ingredients:

1 cup jojoba oil (or liquid oil of choice)
1 cup filtered water
2 tbsp beeswax
1/2 tsp natural preservative
96 drops essential oils of choice

Instructions:

Put jojoba oil and beeswax in a heat safe container.
Create a double boiler by putting the container with the jojoba oil and beeswax in a pan of water.
Heat the water in the makeshift double boiler to a low boil.
Keep heating the jojoba oil until the beeswax is completely melted and blended in.
Have the filtered water measured out and nearby in a pitcher that can pour slowly.
Carefully pour the hot jojoba oil and beeswax mixture into the blender or food processor.
Turn food processor on, and very slowly pour water into food processor in a very thin stream.
Once all of the water has been added, let the food processor run for another minute or so.
Check temperature of lotion. Once it is under 176° F, add preservative while food processor is running.
Add essential oils (if using) while food processor is running.
Turn off food processor, and pour into glass jars to store.

? Why Organic Skincare?
Whatever goes onto our skin is absorbed directly into our body! Did you know that no one is regulating the safety of many of the ingredients in conventional personal care products? Even products labelled “natural” can contain products that:
– Disrupt the endocrine system and our hormones
– Are carcinogenic and cause cancer
– Are linked to diabetes, obesity, fertility problems and developmental disorders
