Tea Tree Oil and Lavender Essential Oil Can Kill All Lice and Lice Eggs In 24 Hours

The epidemic of Lice Outbreak In America Leaves Doctors Scratching Their Heads For Solutions While The Answer Is Staring Them Right In The Face

The 2016 school year is beginning for millions. Like clockwork, we will hear reports of lice outbreaks all over America. This particular version of lice is now referred to as Super Lice because the standard medical options used previously are ineffective at combating it. In years past one could just head off to the local drug store and purchase over-the-counter products that could eradicate the problem. Researchers are now classifying this new strain of lice as mutant lice because 25 states so far are dealing with lice that will not die off after using the standard treatments.

“The insecticides that have been the over-the-counter treatments of choice for head lice eradication are permethrin and pyrethrin, commonly known as Nix rinse and Rid shampoo. These products work by penetrating, then changing the chemistry of the nerve cells of lice causing eventual paralysis and death. They have been effective for years until the past decade or so, when certain genetic mutations started appearing randomly in lice, decreasing their susceptibility to this treatment.”

While this news may be alarming to the uninformed, it is rather encouraging to those who understand the power of essential oils. Essential oils have actually been found to eradicate lice and clear up the problem in a completely safe, non-toxic manner in as quick as 24-hours. According to our own US NIH, “Early research suggests that tea tree oil might repel lice. Also, applying a combination of lavender and tea tree oil kills lice eggs and reduces the number of live lice. It is unclear if the effects are caused by the tea tree oil alone or the combination of lavender and tea tree oil.” vi

“One 2012 study examined the efficacy of two natural substances: tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) oil and nerolidol (3,7,11-trimethyl-1,6,10-dodecatrien-3-ol) against lice and nits (eggs). At a 1% concentration, tea tree oil was found to kill 100% of head lice within 30 minutes of application. Twice that concentration (2%) of tea tree oil resulted in the failure of 50% of the eggs to hatch after 4 days.

Another study completed in 2010 compared the efficacy of tea tree oil and lavender oil, pyrethrins and piperonyl butoxide, and a ‘suffocation’ product for the treatment of head lice in school children. Impressively, 41 of 42 (97.6%) of the tea tree oil/lavender oil treatment group were louse-free one day after the final application, whereas only 10 of 40 (25%) from the chemical insecticide group were free from lice after the last treatment”.
